If you ask smartphone fanatics around the globe, one of the biggest (if not the biggest) disappointments for smart phone users switching from one of the iPhone flavors to Android-based ones is the lack of truly great games that run in Google’s smart-phone platform.

However, as with many things in this Internet-driven era, this apparent lack of games could be more something caused by the discovery mechanisms built into the Android Market rather than lack of quality and quantity in games. After several hours of browsing around gaming websites, I’ve found that if you take the time to find them, there are some awesome games to play.

For instance, I found a game called “Algadon”, a medieval/fantasy themed multi-player RPG which has all the right ingredients to make a great game. What’s in it? Well, everything you’d expect in a fantasy RPG: You pursue quests, fight against boss monsters and beasts, place bounties, and of course, fight other players.

Players can purchase weapons, armor, food, and potions and learn spells to help them to move up the game’s many levels, training to become stronger. You know, everything you expect in a Medieval RPG. Players can also join a clan (optional but a popular choice, according to gaming forums), send private messages to each other, or post public profile messages. As you advance through the game, additional quests, weapons, armor, and more become available so you can face the ever greater challenges in the game.

The game is available for mobile also, and apps are available for Android and iPhone. A MySpace version is also available, which is a completely different game with different goals and challenges, so if you like this kind of game, it can be a great way to spend your time.

If you have ever wanted a list of ways to lose in your fantasy sports leagues then this is the article for you. I suppose you could probably avoid most of these and perhaps help your odds of winning as well.

Although I’m not a big fan of Fantasy Football, I must admit I’m growing fond of it. But this post is not about whether I like Fantasy Football, it’s about a great website I stumbled upon while trying to improve my scores by getting some insider’s information.

I’m not much of a board game player, but this really deserves mentioning. BackgammonMasters has invited the Guinness World Records Gaming Edition to witness what should be the world’s longest backgammon dice roll. The attempt to break the current record will take place during a Backgammon tournament sponsored by BackgammonMasters featuring two of the world’s greatest Backgammon players facing off on a giant, 1-acre Backgammon board.

The tournament is designed to promote Backgammon Masters’ Backgammon Freeroll Tournaments, held online every Tuesday and Friday at their site (http://www.backgammonmasters.com), and promises to be one big event, in the whole meaning of the word.

Two renowned backgammon champs will face off from helicopters flying about 100 meters above the 1-acre field Backgammon board. The players will roll the dice from the helicopters, dropping them onto the board below.

The dice, specially designed for the event, are composed of an inflatable material that shields them from the world-record-breaking falls but still guarantee “fair throws”. Once the dice have been tossed, the competitors will then communicate via walkie-talkie to their field staff below, who will move the 1-meter wide checkers according to their strategies.
