If you’ve been paying enough attention to the news, you may have read or heard that IZEA has launched a new blog ranking system, named Izea Ranks, which is poised as the definitive solution to evaluate the real influence of Blogs on the Internet.
But how does it work?
IZEA Ranks calculates a blog ranking value using a weighted sum of:
Number of visits (70% of total score)
Number of daily incoming links (20%)
Number of Page Views (10%)
All this data makes up a blog’s RealRank, which intention is to replace Alexa’s Rank and the much debated Google PageRank as a reliable and realistic blog ranking system. I’m not really sure whether they will actually succeed at this because I see one problem with the ranking system they’re proposing: In order to be included in this ranking, bloggers must include IZEA’s tracking Javascript code.
Although this isn’t a problem for those who are willing to be included in the ranking, it leaves out those who don’t, which makes it a bit difficult to determine how influential a blog is, simply because they’re not looking at all the blogs out there so their rank isn’t a real measure of how influential a blog is, as it only measure how influential it is within the set of Blogs using IZEA’s code.
On the other hand, it is true that they’re using actual statistics to rank blogs as supposed to Google’s projections, so this is a big, positive step in establishing how popular a blog really is. It doesn’t take “paid posts” into account, nor it lowers any blog’s rank value because they’re doing it. This might generate a lot of debate because there are many people who don’t always “play by the rules” when it comes to paid reviews but I think Google hasn’t been fair to those who want to monetize their blogs but still write fair reviews. So, in this sense, IZEA Ranks is on a better track than PageRank.
In short, RealRank is a new, different way to establishing how influential a blog is. It is new and it may not be perfect but, can it be perfect and satisfy everyone? I’m not sure yet but I’m not sure we even want a perfect ranking system. I will settle for one that’s fair to everyone and it doesn’t place commercial interests in front of the actual blog ranking. And I think RealRank has the potential to achieve that, if it manages to get most blogs to use its JS code.
When we talk about Internet search engines, the first thing that pops to our minds is Google, and maybe Yahoo! Those two work very well for regular web searches but they don’t really work well when it comes to finding your long lost friends or maybe your sweetheart from another time and place…
For when you want to track down a person, I found Spock.com to be one of the best people search engines in the market. If you are searching for friends, relatives or anything you can think of Spock- the best for people search engine there is.

Searching is only the first tool you’ll find in Spock.com. You can further your search experience by establishing a relationship with others, connecting with trusted contacts you can search within their networks to find people you’ve lost touch with and make new acquaintances through friends.
Spock.com is a free people and information search engine that is similar to Google and Wikipedia in that it takes information on people from all across the Web and organizes it in an easy to search format. If you don’t find the person you’re looking for within Spock’s database, don’t despair, as Spock’s search results also return additional results from LiveSearch, so that you have one more chance to find your friends and relatives.
You can search by name, e-mail or by a special piece of information about them (e.g. lawyers, web developers, curly hair, etc). These pieces of information are called tags and can be created by the user themselves, or by other Spock members. Opinions about a person are voiced by voting on a tag or picture. Within a search results there are links to a person’s other locations on the web (e.g. MySpace, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, blog, etc), so that you can find yet more information about them.

When it comes to web design and web marketing, there are few things more important than good quality search engine optimization. Search engine optimization, known as SEO, when properly done will garner you better traffic from search engines as well as better placement within search engines.
Few of us are truly experts in the field of search engine optimization though and usually need some assistance. In my usual walk around the Blogosphere, I found a new but still promising website: the SEO Help forums, a great place to get help and information related to SEO, and as a sidedish, post your website for peer review.
They were created by the guys at SEORant and offer a few friendly discussion boards on SEO and internet marketing, with participation from experts in the field. SEO, PPC and advertising are covered, as well as hosting and some technical support. The site is still small but it is poised as a big gathering point for those of us who want to learn more about optimizing our site, bringing traffic in and the like. Thumbs up!
